Director Santosh Sivan is puzzled by reports that he is set to make an FX-driven fantasy film with superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

"I'm still scripting the fantasy film. And the screenplay is a long way from being completed. So how can I be thinking of casting? And I'm not doing a film with Shah Rukh at all," said Sivan, who had directed Shah Rukh in Asoka.

Shah Rukh apparently wants to make a big-budget FX film for his son's sake and Anubhav Sinha is said to be directing his dream project. Though Sinha refuses to comment on the progress of the movie, it's learnt that the film is to be titled Ra.One and that the title was suggested by King Khan himself.

"In fact, Shah Rukh is taking very keen interest in the scripting of Ra.One and director Sinha would like Shah Rukh to be credited as a screenwriter for the project, if and when SRK's production house Red Chillies actually sets down to make this ambitious sci-fi thriller," an industry source said.

The film will go on floors once the star completes his current projects - Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to be followed by Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan.

"In fact, the two projects are Shah Rukh's immediate and complete priority right now. He was supposed to start Karan's film earlier this year. But Karan allowed Adi to take his hero's dates and cameraman (Ravi Chandran).

"Now Shah Rukh will complete Karan's film. Only then will he think of doing an FX film. That, in any case, requires tremendous preparation," the source added.

India take charge with triple-strike

The wickets of the two Michaels, Clarke and Hussey, and Shane Watson in the space of 37 deliveries undid plenty of hard work and turned the match India's way during a gripping afternoon session. Australia were inching towards India's first-innings 441, with Hussey set for another hundred, but a burst of wickets left them 161 runs adrift. Hussey's determination was in keeping with the platform he built with centurion Simon Katich in the morning.

At 255 for 3, with under a session and a half left today and Hussey and Clarke batting watchfully, Australia seemed in control. Then Clarke, who came to the crease just before lunch, was undone by a peach from Ishant Sharma, and was out for a 44-ball 8. The next wicket was completely out of the blue, and it needed something like that to dislodge a man who seemed set to grind India into the dust. Hussey, on 90, punched off the back foot and M Vijay at silly point intercepted and then flicked it back to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who broke the stumps with Hussey on the move for a single.

Until that moment, Hussey's ability to dig himself in had frustrated India no end. Slowly, almost unnoticeably, he had moved through the seventies and eighties and on to 90. He left the ball well and had never looked like getting out. There was the odd flourish, most noticeably a brilliant reverse-sweep for four off Harbhajan Singh, collected from well outside leg stump, to go with an inside-out drive off Ishant.

Eleven deliveries after Hussey departed, Harbhajan cleaned up Watson with one that spun, clipped the forearm and rolled on to off stump. The pressure was well and truly on Brad Haddin and Cameron White and another dour partnership was the need of the hour.

When the day began India went with an 8-1 field, repeatedly bowled outside the off stump, and delayed the introduction of the spinners. Australia, who had to force the pace, decided this was not the time for innovative strokeplay and as a result only 42 runs came before lunch. India's method should have taken care of Katich early. When he was on 94, Ishant created an opportunity, forcing Katich to play away from the body, but Rahul Dravid put down a simple catch at first slip, grasping it easily and then spilling it. Katich recently admitted that the worst shot he had played in international cricket was when he missed one on 99 from Murali Kartik in Nagpur four years ago. This was a pretty ordinary shot as well, and Katich's face said it all.

Until that drop Katich had gone hard at almost everything he could possibly touch outside the off stump. With eight fielders on the off side, Ishant repeatedly bowled wide of off stump which initially drew a hesitant Katich forward. He patiently let several of them alone before raising his hundred with a delicate dab, which evaded the slips and gully for four. Since resuming the day on 92, Katich had spent 19 tense deliveries in the nineties and he immediately broke into a boyish smile on reaching three figures.

After 18 overs of fast bowing, Ishant was replaced by Harbhajan, but it was pace with which India had their first breakthrough. Katich missed a Zaheer yorker, trying to work it towards the leg side, and was struck flush on the pad in front of leg stump. Finally the tactic had worked for India, and the first aggressive shot Katich played undid him. Katich had faced 50 deliveries since reaching a hundred, and 37 on his final score of 102.

Hussey continued the same way, but didn't get as far as Katich. Dhoni began the day aiming to defend, but by the late afternoon he would have fancied chances of winning the series 2-0

Garnett leads Celtics to 96-80 win over Bulls

Kevin Garnett played much better in the 1,000th game of his career than in his first of this season.

Boston’s intense leader had 18 points and 10 rebounds three days after a mediocre season opener and became the youngest player in NBA history to play in 1,000 regular-season games when the Celtics beat the Chicago Bulls 96-80 Friday night.

“It feels crazy,” Garnett said. “To sit here and have a plateau with 1,000 games says a lot not only about my conditioning, but, through knocking on wood countless times, taking care of my body and trying to be the best player that I can be.”

Garnett reached the 1,000-game mark at the age of 32 years, 165 days—three days before the 13th anniversary of his NBA debut with Minnesota when he scored eight points, but made all four shots, as a substitute. He broke the record of 33 years, 24 days set by Shawn Kemp on Dec. 20, 2002.

Kobe Bryant is two years and three months younger and already has played 868 games. And LeBron James is already up to 393 games and won’t turn 24 until Dec. 30.

“That’s amazing,” Boston coach Doc Rivers said of Garnett’s record. “I’m assuming Kobe will break the record and LeBron will break the record, but it’s nice to have.”

So is a 2-0 record this season after the Celtics’ 17th championship banner was raised before Tuesday night’s 90-85 win over James’ Cleveland Cavaliers. Garnett scored just 11 points on 5-for-15 shooting in that game.

“Tonight I felt a lot more poised,” he said after making 7 of 11 shots.

This one was much easier as Boston’s active defense from the start held Chicago to 4-of-23 shooting in the first quarter.

“We wanted to go out and establish ourselves defensively,” Paul Pierce said. “We felt like in Game 1 we didn’t do that” against the Cavaliers.

Rookie point guard Derrick Rose, the top pick in the NBA draft, led the Bulls with 18 points and made six of their 25 field goals. He also learned a lesson from the champs.

“There ain’t no time to wait,” he said. “When you get the opportunity, you’ve got to take it. They don’t waste no time when they come out. They mean business.”

Three days after their emotional ceremony, the Celtics dominated early and led by at least 10 points throughout the final three quarters. The Bulls made only 10 of 45 shots (22.2 percent) in the first half and went 25-for-84 (29.8 percent) for the game.

On Tuesday, Pierce cried during the ceremony at which the banner was raised and championship rings were handed out. Then he led Boston with 27 points in the close game.

The Celtics didn’t need that much from Pierce on Friday.

“They competed every possession and they have a swagger about them,” Vinny Del Negro said after his first loss as coach of the Bulls following a 108-95 win over Milwaukee on Tuesday. “We never developed any type of flow offensively.”

Nine days after the Celtics’ title-clinching win over the Los Angeles Lakers, the Bulls drafted Rose following their 33-49 season. He played better Friday than he did against the Bucks but had just one assist. Tyrus Thomas, on 2-for-17 shooting, and Ben Gordon, who went 3-for-10, scored 11 each.

Pierce, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo scored 14 each for Boston.

The Celtics led 24-13 after one quarter as the Bulls didn’t make a field goal until Kendrick Perkins was called for goaltending against Drew Gooden with 6:19 left in the period.

Boston opened the second quarter with a 7-2 run and Chicago went without a field goal until Rose made a layup with 7:18 remaining in the half.

Garnett scored eight of the Celtics last 12 points of the first half, giving them a 49-31 lead at intermission. Their lead ranged from 16 to 28 points the rest of the way.

Boston’s starting forwards went 13-for-24—Garnett’s 7-for-11 and Pierce’s 6-for-11. Perkins had 10 rebounds.

Now Garnett is ready for his 1,001st game at Indiana on Saturday night.

“I’ve always taken a lot of pride in playing games and never taking games off,” he said. “I have exceeded a lot of the personal goals I have set for myself and I’m just enjoying this team, enjoying this year and enjoying every day that I can get up and play this game full strength.”

VVS Laxman tormented Australia with his second Test double-century and Gautam Gambhir registered his first as India batted themselves into an almost unconquerable position in the third Test. On the second successive day of complete Indian domination, Australia's greatest achievement was simply getting to stumps without losing a wicket.

But Matthew Hayden and Simon Katich were given a preview of the challenge that awaits them as the legspinners Amit Mishra and Anil Kumble spun a few deliveries viciously out of the footmarks that Australia's bowlers had created over nearly 12 hours in the field. The openers batted out 15 overs after Kumble delayed his declaration to allow Laxman to reach 200.

As soon as the milestone came with a lofted on-drive off Michael Clarke, India's batsmen were called in. They had done their job. If the first day did not consign Australia to an unwinnable position, the second day must surely have managed it. Gambhir and Laxman compiled a mammoth 278-run partnership that left Australia tired, frustrated and wicketless for nearly three sessions. In spite of Gambhir's achievement at his home ground, the day belonged to Laxman.

His list of achievements was impressive: he went past 2000 Test runs against Australia; he recorded his sixth Test century against them; and he turned it into his second highest Test score, behind his 2000-01 effort of 281 at Eden Gardens, an innings that still gives a few Australians sleepless nights. If ever there was proof of his love of this opposition it's his list of top Test innings - his best four are all against Australia.

Laxman began the day in ominous touch and pulled brilliantly when Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson dropped short. He stalled for a while on 99 before driving Cameron White comfortably through cover for four and went on to cause problems for all the bowlers. The Australians helped him by regularly straying onto his pads and it was like handing Cookie Monster control of the Arnott's factory.

At one stage Ricky Ponting even effectively relocated the slips cordon to short midwicket to handle the situation. It was reminiscent of the old Test Match board game where children carefully place their little plastic fielders in unorthodox positions to deal with the predictability of the restrictive batting mechanism.

Ponting lined up his three catching men - a misnomer as they weren't offered any catches - on the leg-side but Laxman still found the spaces with casual flicks and well-timed drives. And unlike the Test Match batsman there is nothing restrictive about Laxman's technique, so he also took the opportunity to glide easy runs through the vacant slip region.

He left some of his most flabbergasting shots until late in the day. Can anyone truly explain how he turned a Johnson delivery that was angled across him and was well outside off stump into an on-drive for four? And yet he did it so effortlessly that viewers could not help but assume that was the most logical stroke for that delivery.

In Laxman's company, Gambhir was as anonymous as one can be in reaching 200. He played some impressive shots of his own; he clubbed White contemptuously through midwicket and when things became so desperate for Australia that Ricky Ponting bowled for the first time since 2005-06, Gambhir pulled his slow-medium bouncer easily over the infield for four.

When Gambhir got his double-century with a clip off his hips from Lee, his celebrations were relatively muted. There was a raise of the bat and a handshake from a smiling and admiring Lee, but Gambhir was clearly exhausted. The proof came when he wearily played on to Shane Watson on 206. It was Australia's first success since Sachin Tendulkar departed just before tea on the first day.

By the time Gambhir went, India were 435 for 4. It was all rather academic after that. Laxman kept scoring, the lower order gave him impressive support and Australia kept toiling without much hope of achieving anything of real value. But a few things were confirmed in the period that followed, namely that Katich should bowl more often, Johnson is a tireless worker and Brad Haddin is struggling with such long and hot days behind the stumps.

It has been a tough tour for Haddin, who has had to deal with unfamiliar pace and bounce while trying to maintain his concentration. His worst moment came when Laxman, on 134, got a thick edge off Watson. The ball flew between the wicketkeeper and first slip but it was so close to Haddin that he would not have needed to dive; as it was, he didn't even move.

Haddin did grasp a second, almost identical chance soon after to remove Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who had been briefly entertaining in smashing 27. The reflexes of Katich were sharper. Dhoni pulled violently back at head height towards the bowler Katich, who somehow got his left hand to the ball and simultaneously dropped an almost impossible chance while saving the umpire Aleem Dar from losing a few teeth.

Had Katich pinched the chance it would have been two wickets in two overs after he removed Sourav Ganguly for 5. It was strange that Ponting had not asked Katich, a left-arm wrist-spinner, to bowl to Ganguly earlier in the series. The similarly-styled Brad Hogg removed Ganguly four times in last season's Tests and Katich duly continued the trend, drawing Ganguly into a drive to Ponting at cover.

Katich, White, Clarke and Ponting all bowled spells that helped relieve the fast men, who couldn't find much movement and were often given depressingly defensive fields. But Johnson showed heart and was still firing in short and fast stuff late in the day. He was rewarded with an lbw decision against Kumble (45) and finished with 3 for 142.

The very fact that Johnson's figures were considered reasonable highlighted just how much India dominated the first two days. The first belonged to Gambhir, the second to Laxman - for Australia to rescue the match, the third day must be emphatically claimed by one of their top six.

The second Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand finally began in Mirpur under sunny skies after rain had washed out the first three days. Mohammad Ashraful, the Bangladesh captain, decided to bowl on a pitch showing numerous cracks. The ground, however, was still damp and the start was delayed to 10.00am. Heavy moisture was also evident after three days of heavy rain.

The match is still winnable according to Daniel Vettori, in which case, New Zealand will have to pile on some runs quickly to ensure they will need to bat only once.

Both teams made one change to their line-ups from the first Test in Chittagong. Bangladesh replaced Naeem Islam with fast bowler Mahbubul Alam, who will be making his debut. New Zealand brought in allrounder Grant Elliott for Jacob Oram, who returned home because of a back problem. Elliott has played only one Test, against England, earlier this year. Ironically, he came into that match because Oram was injured.

New Zealand lead the two-Test series 1-0 and the amount of time lost in this match has made the possibility of a result extremely unlikely.

Resuming on the overnight score of 155, New Zealand could add only 16 runs as Bangladesh performed the last rites with Shakib Al Hasan bowling out Iain O'Brien. Undoubtedly, the star performer for Bangladesh, he finished with a career-best of 7 for 36. Daniel Vettori was left stranded at 55, having brought up his half-century on the seventh ball of the day with a push behind square leg off Abdur Razzak.

Any hopes of prolonging the New Zealand innings ended after just 26 balls as O'Brien was undone by a Shakib delivery tossed up outside the leg stump. He tried to play with his pads but the ball went through his legs hitting the leg stump.

India took the honours on day two in Mohali, amassing 469 and then putting Australia under extreme pressure by claiming four wickets before stumps. Sourav Ganguly, who scored his 16th Test century, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni batted in contrasting fashion to force Australia on the defensive, and debutant Amit Mishra struck twice to maintain the intensity created by India's new-ball pair.

Ganguly, who had struggled in the series against Sri Lanka, put on 109 for the seventh wicket with Dhoni to maintain the advantage built on the first day. Ganguly fell for 102 but Dhoni continued to attack, forcing Ricky Ponting to spread his field far and wide. Australia's bowlers struggled to make breakthroughs and most of their wickets came when India tried to up the momentum.

There was a lot of speculation before the series began that Ganguly wouldn't survive four Tests, but he is a man few can predict. Not long after lunch, he tucked Cameron White off his pads towards deep midwicket boundary and indulged himself. His hundred-watt smile and fist-pumping celebration was far from smug; and it seemed it was meant more for himself than anyone else. He had scratched his way into the nineties, while Dhoni entertained at the other end with powerful pulls and drives, and his celebrations signified the achievement of a personal goal.

Ganguly batted with restraint in the morning, watching the ball carefully, playing late, and letting several deliveries pass outside off. He batted 122 deliveries yesterday, and wasn't about to throw it away. He didn't thrust the bat much, took the short-pitched deliveries on merit, and nudged the singles around. He began by pulling Brett Lee for four but was also made to look ungainly by other bouncers. His concentration never wavered.

Taking a leaf out of coach Gary Kirsten's book - keep out the straight ones and try to ignore the others unless you can cut or drive - Ganguly was an almost unnoticeable accumulator. His second century in Mohali came 11 years after his previous one here, and like that hundred against Sri Lanka, this was scored at a strike-rate of just over 45

Ganguly's stodgy approach, however, was complemented by Dhoni's aggression. He pulled his first ball - a short one from Lee - for four and then hooked Siddle for six before turning his attention back to Lee for two more fours in an over. Repeatedly getting inside the line of the short deliveries, Dhoni picked off runs into yawning leg-side spaces at a steady clip. He also waited for the ball, steering backward of point and driving in the V. His running was, as always, excellent and he urged Ganguly to be alert as well.

Batting remained easy, with no swing or variable bounce to speak of, and the two contrasting approaches from Ganguly and Dhoni frustrated Australia in what was almost a perfect morning for the home team.

As has been the case in the past, a shuffle down the track just after a hundred was Ganguly's undoing and Lee tumbled backwards at long-off to take the catch. The wicket was against the run of play, but Dhoni didn't let it hinder him. He passed 1500 Test runs, brought up his 10th fifty with a six over long-on, and hit three more later. He was the last wicket, lbw for 92, and gave the persevering Siddle his third wicket.

The Australians had spent nearly five sessions in the field and, when it was their turn to bat, Zaheer Khan ensured that Matthew Hayden did stay very long under the hot Mohali sun. He nailed Hayden for the third time in three innings - and seven overall - by forcing an inside edge on to the stumps with his third delivery.

A short while after tea, Ishant Sharma had a close shout against Ponting which Rudi Koertzen turned down. A few balls later another sharp inswinger hit Ponting on the pad, and this time he was on the back foot, leaving Australia 17 for 2. Zaheer and Ishant attacked through their opening spell and the change to spin didn't release the pressure.

class="news-body">Mishra's 18th ball in Test cricket resulted in a wicket. Katich, who had gone to 33 with some soft-handed strokes, played on. Mishra tied down the batsmen by mixing googlies with flippers and pitching them on a length. The spinners turned the ball sharply; Michael Hussey had one thick edge bypass slip and was reprieved by Dhoni on 25 off Harbhajan Singh. Hussey rode his luck to 37 by stumps, looking on as Mishra struck in the last over of the day, hitting Michael Clarke on the pad with a googly from round the stumps. India were without Anil Kumble in this game but Mishra has filled the gap impressively so far.

India's bowling efforts will, however, be a postscript. This was Ganguly and Dhoni's day.
